Croatian tourist company Istraturist formally opened its first five-star hotel on Friday. The Hotel Sol Coral in Umag is also the first five-star hotel in Istria, the country's leading tourist region.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said that the Croatian tourist industry needed hotels like that because they raised the quality and competitiveness of tourist services. He added that over a billion kuna (138.5 million euros) would be invested in Istria's hotels this year.

Istraturist invested nearly 100 million kuna (13.8 million euros) in the hotel, which has 244 rooms, six luxury suites, a conference room, and a wellness centre. (Hina)
